What strange combinations of food do you like to eat?

“Great Question” (4points)

This question was inspired by a post from Aviona. Aviona mentioned eating artichokes with ketchup. I’ve also heard that peanut butter on a burger is quite yummy. Elvis liked having a fried peanut butter/banana sandwich.

What combinations have you tried that sound strange, but ended up being really tasty? Did you come up with this concoction on your own or is it something that your family has always done?

Ketchup and Seahorse wasn’t too shabby.
Right now, I’m just happy to slurp down a liquid.

The Fool’s Gold Loaf is disgusting but delicious.

jrpowell's avatar

Nacho Cheese Doritos and cream cheese. I thought it sounded nasty but my sister can be persuasive.

I love it now.

MrMontpetit's avatar

Plain, yellow mustard, on plain, Lays potato chips.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm

asmonet's avatar

@johnpowell: Ah, I love that!!

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

A peanut butter and yellow mustard sandwich isn’t as bad as it sounds. I ate a lot of that as a kid. I once cooked up mac and cheese and decided to add broccoli to it, and then, what happens, a few months later, a big food corporation comes out with the same idea.

I also like blueberry jam and homemade pistachio butter, that’s not weird, though, just unusual.

jrpowell's avatar

@asmonet :: It feels good to not be the only one.

jonsblond's avatar

@evelyns_pet_zebra Blueberry jam and pistachio butter sounds yummy!

asmonet's avatar

@johnpowell: Dude, if we ever hang, we can eat that all night + beer. Deal?

jrpowell's avatar

@asmonet :: That works for me. Save some pills for me..

jonsblond's avatar

Doritos with chive flavored cream cheese, I’d try that!

cak's avatar

Doritos (nacho flavor) and cottage cheese. I managed to get my husband hooked on it, as well.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@jonsblond oh it is! Pistachio butter is so easy to make, I don’t know why more people don’t try it. Peanut butter is blah after having pistachio butter. You can make nut butter out of about any kind of nut there is, except of course, the ones that ride around in your husband’s trousers, he might take offense at that.

asmonet's avatar

@johnpowell: Oh, fo’ sho’. ;)

Dr_C's avatar

OMFG…. McDonalds fries dipped in McDonalds chocolate shake…. looks gross… so F’n delicious!

jrpowell's avatar

Hell yes on the fries and milkshake. Mayonnaise and fries is awesome too.

Darwin's avatar

Peanut butter, mayonnaise and lettuce on squishy white bread. My parents introduced me to it. My mom likes to also add in fried oysters.

Also bananas and mayonnaise.

jonsblond's avatar

@Dr_C My daughter does that. I thought she was just being five! :D

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@Dr_C I liked that when I used to eat that stuff. I don’t do fast food anymore. I will eat a McRib occasionally, and a McRib without the pickles just tastes WRONG!

swimswimswim's avatar

banana and mayonayse sandwiches…mmmmm good

Darwin's avatar

Another one we like is cold sauerkraut with Thousand Island dressing.

andrew's avatar

Great minds think alike ?

jonsblond's avatar

@swimswimswim Lurve for the username. Welcome to fluther.

@andrew Phew! I thought it was going to be a question from a week ago. I usually search. Great minds indeed! :D

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

How about hard boiled eggs with stone ground mustard, the pungent kind.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@andrew, your score is all sixes, are you Satan?

asmonet's avatar

I like asparagus dipped in mayo.
I like English muffins drowned in butter and topped with copious amounts of cinnamon and sugar.

And as I said here

Mashed bananas + lemon juice. As soon as my teef heal a bit more, I am digging the fuck in on that one.

AstroChuck's avatar

Grilled or toasted peanut butter and Swiss cheese sandwiches.

asmonet's avatar

And fried bologna occassionally dipped in maple syrup.

Darwin's avatar

My major professor always had to have beer with chocolate cake. I tried it but was underwhelmed.

essieness's avatar

@MrMontpetit Hell yes.

I won’t eat carrots unless their cooked (like with a roast) and dipped in ketchup. I’ve also been known to get really stoned and make grilled PB & J. Off the chain.

3or4monsters's avatar

This thread is making me sooooo hungry…

Tortilla chips dipped in peanut butter (makes smooth peanut butter chunky!).
Cheddar cheese strips (not fried) dipped in ketchup.

swimswimswim's avatar

tuna fish mixed with hot sauce and eaten on crackers

AstroChuck's avatar

And of course, Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese drenched in Heinz ketchup.
Mmmmmm.

swimswimswim's avatar

Cream cheese wrapped in sweet bologna is delicious!!!!

tiffyandthewall's avatar

grapes and (preferably natural) peanut butter.

AstroChuck's avatar

Frozen grapes are great too.

I blissed out in LA with those fruit stands that included coconuts, cukes, melons of all kinds, citrus of all kinds, mangos, etc. topped with salt, chili, and lemon juice. I have been having a version of this every morning since I came back. So yummy.

MrMontpetit's avatar

This whole thread reminds me of this website.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@swimswimswim hot sauce (or salsa) goes good with everything. Well, except ice cream. I tried a habanero raspberry sauce made especially for ice cream. I wasn’t impressed.

3or4monsters's avatar

@MrMontpetit I know, I was thinking the same thing!

SeventhSense's avatar

@MrMontpetit
The meatlog…he he
McSurf n Turf is an instant classic

aprilsimnel's avatar

I’ll put a few dashes of chipotle seasoning in my hot chocolate.

I know, I’m wild! WILD!@!!!111!

Dr_C's avatar

This will make ANY meal taste better

Darwin's avatar

@Dr_C: Even chocolate ice cream?

Dr_C's avatar

@Darwin ESPECIALLY chocolate ice cream

May2689's avatar

For me its this: grab a sausage, chop it into little pieces… but it on top of toast and then put Valentina Sauce over the sausages, its DELICIOUS.

daloonagain's avatar

Mayonaiss and chocolate ice cream drizzled with melted lemon butter. You have not lived until you’ve tried this! Sounds gross, but it is truly amazing!

MrMontpetit's avatar

@daloonagain Woah, GA for that! Not because I’ve tried it and like it, but because it sounds so different and unique!

jonsblond's avatar

@daloonagain I must try that!
and walk 10 miles afterwards

daloonagain's avatar

Yeah, my goal is to have a heart attack at age 35.

I’m kind of bummed (no pun intended—no really —well, ok, maybe a bit) about that… I’m already 52!

ru2bz46's avatar

Chocolate-dipped crispy bacon. :P

ru2bz46's avatar

Cream cheese-stuffed prunes, wrapped in bacon, then baked.

ru2bz46's avatar

Leftover ham, diced, then fried in habanero jelly until the jelly carmalizes.

jonsblond's avatar

@ru2bz46 I was going to go there(chocolate dipped bacon) until daloonagain side tracked me with his wonderful concoction. :)

ru2bz46's avatar

Beaver. Again, if you don’t know me, you might think that is a joke answer, but alas, it is some very tasty meat. I mixed it with 20% bacon, garlic, salt, pepper, and rosemary to make sausage. Delicious!

ru2bz46's avatar

@jonsblond Sorry ‘bout that. I first tried Mo’s Bacon Bar from Vosges. It was surprisingly good, but made with a deep milk chocolate. I prefer dark chocolate, so self-dipping is the way to go. Also, the Vosges is $7.50. 8^|

3or4monsters's avatar

This thread is torture to someone trying to lose weight.

steve6's avatar

Cincinnati style chili has weird spices in it like cardamom and chocolate.

jonsblond's avatar

@ru2bz46 Dark chocolate is my fave! Yum. No need to be sorry, you beat me to it! :)

@3or4monsters Believe me, I’m trying too. It’s nice to dream though, isn’t it!

steve6's avatar

This thread is making me hungry too. It’s Skyline time.

jonsblond's avatar

@steve6 It’s making me hungry too. I should go to sleep before I raid the frizzer.

SeventhSense's avatar

@ru2bz46
I find beaver delightful.

Dr_C's avatar

@SeventhSense don’t we all?

ru2bz46's avatar

Homemade fruit liqueurs over ice cream.

ru2bz46's avatar

Strawberries dipped in sour cream and rolled in brown sugar. :P

dearest_prudence's avatar

Dried fish and seal oil
yum

JellyB's avatar

Apparently this is strange: I like to put syrup on my grilled cheese sandwiches.

It really is good! :)

ru2bz46's avatar

@dearest_prudence (sigh) you Alaskans…though I wouldn’t mind trying that…

dearest_prudence's avatar

@ru2bz46- It is yummy, I find it hard to believe you wouldn’t like it
you eat beaver

ru2bz46's avatar

@dearest_prudence Are you talking about the sealed fish? I said I wouldn’t mind trying it…but ya gotta admit, it is typically “backwoods” – lol. Yeah, I know, so is beaver. I had my reservations on eating it since the guy I went hunting with never ate it in the years he had hunted them. He said the Sacramento Delta was too dirty and the beavers smelled too nasty (while alive). I gave him some of the sausage I made, and he loved it!

dearest_prudence's avatar

@ru2bz46 not “sealed fish” silly man
dried fish and (as a condiment like ketchup) seal oil
send me some beaver sausage, I need comfort food
the eruption is scaring me

JellyB's avatar

@ru2bz46 LOL! Don’t diss it till you haven’t tried it! :D

Allie's avatar

I like french fries dipped in honey.

MrMontpetit's avatar

@dearest_prudence Mmm, dried fish with seal oil? Never tried it, but that does sound delicious!

dearest_prudence's avatar

@Mr. Montpetit it is:)

ru2bz46's avatar

@JellyB Honey and cheese? That sounds almost as bad as @Allie‘s honey and french fries. Hmmm…actually, I just started thinking about which would be worse, kinda rolling the flavors around my mental tongue, and…maybe they would both be kinda good. I think I’ll try them. Mmmm, maybe some crispy fried parmesan cheese with honey…I’ll be right back…

JellyB's avatar

@ru2bz46 No, it’s serious!! Try mine! I also thought is sounded weird when i first heard it, but it works! I’ve only done it with syrup of course, so dunno about the honey… JUST TRY IT! :)

jonsblond's avatar

@JellyB I like to spread honey mustard on crackers with cheddar cheese, so I can imagine syrup or honey working quite well with grilled cheese. I bet my 5 year old daughter would love it!

ru2bz46's avatar

Oh, sorry @JellyB, I saw the french fries and thought you said honey as well. It sounds worse with syrup, but I’ll try it. What kind of cheese is best with syrup? I usually go for cheddar on my grilled sandwiches.

AstroChuck's avatar

@steve6- Isnt that supposed to be served on spaghetti?

JellyB's avatar

@ru2bz46 :D

Yes, cheddar or gouda!! :)

casheroo's avatar

I grew up eating peanut butter on my waffles, with extra syrup.

I loved peanut butter and syrup so much, that my mother would make a sandwich out of it, for me as my packed lunch. People thought I was quite bizarre. I didn’t care.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I like to melt a bit of sharp cheddar over apple pie.

evelyns_pet_zebra's avatar

@aprilsimnel my Dad always put a slice of cheddar on warm apple pie. I thought it was weird, but it’s pretty good.

AstroChuck's avatar

It’s gotta be melted extra sharp cheddar and the apple pie has to be tart, not too sweet.

Darwin's avatar

Actually, I have won awards for an apple pie I make that has the cheese baked in it. Yes, it is extra sharp cheddar, and I use Granny Smith apples and a touch of raspberry vinegar to make sure the apples are slightly tart.

AstroChuck's avatar

I love you, Darwin.

aprilsimnel's avatar

@Darwin – You’re PMing me that recipe, right? :D

Blondesjon's avatar

Miracle Whip on a sloppy joe. Fucking killer b.

AstroChuck's avatar

Yeah, but Miracle Whip tastes like baby shit. Why put shit on your sloppy joe?

Blondesjon's avatar

Because I like it? Why don’t you go crack yourself open a Dr. Pepper?

It’s not cream soda and I don’t believe for a second that Mr. Pepper had a valid medical licence.

Dr_C's avatar

Is anyone else concerned about why @AstroChuck knows what baby shit tastes like?

AstroChuck's avatar

It tastes like Miracle Whip.
Now ask me what dog shit tastes like.

Dr_C's avatar

@AstroChuck… what does dog shit taste like?

Darwin's avatar

@Blondesjon Actually the inventor was a pharmacist and so didn’t have a medical license, but he named it after someone who had one, a guy back in Virginia. Somehow Dr Pepper sounds better than Mr Alderton (the inventor), or what they called it first, a Waco, as in “Shoot me a Waco, son!”

I didn’t make this up. You can see it for yourself here

AstroChuck's avatar

@Dr_C- Surprisingly like Miracle Whip.

Dr_C's avatar

@AstroChuck i am amazed… surprised… and pleased.
suddenly i can’t look my dog in the eye…

Darwin's avatar

@Dr_C – Looking your dog in the eye shouldn’t be a problem. Since dogs like both Miracle Whip and being coprophagous, you would do better to spend your time worrying about letting your dog lick you.

Dr_C's avatar

@Darwin that was something i hadn’t thought about… and i was pretty happy about it…

MrMontpetit's avatar

Here is why I’m fat:

Peanut butter glazed donut topped with bananas and bacon.

ru2bz46's avatar

@MrMontpetit Isn’t that the Elvis special? I once thought that was horrid sounding, but it is starting to sound pretty good.

MrMontpetit's avatar

@ru2bz46 Yup, the Elvis donut. :)
