Fluther: Is it normal that using a site such as this one ...

Is it normal that using a site such as this one for about 4-5 hours, uses up about 100 meg of internet allotment?

There seems to be a difference in the rate internet space is used up when i compare the internet i use at wok and at home…

Whoa, certainly not. Even if you are refreshing a lot, it should load stuff from your cache. I’d be hard pressed to push 10MB in an entire day of refreshing.

Something else is using up your internet. Perhaps your computer is infected with a virus that is sending out emails.

By the way, the term you want is “bandwidth”, not “internet space” which doesn’t really exist :)

@dynamicduo Wow, you’re serious?! Well, we’re changing service providers next month….we have no idea how we’re using up so much at home, i’m hoping we’ll see an improvement then. There shouldn’t be viruses, i have AVG.

I’m very serious. I’m almost always serious. There’s something really fishy going on if you consumed 100MB of internet in one night simply by browsing the web, unless you were loading a lot of Flash videos and download mp3s.

@dynamicduo LOL! No, i never watch videos at home for that exact reason! I even try to limit opening up pictures! Well, we’ll soon see, once we’ve made the switch…..

There are tools you can install to monitor your bandwidth usage. Ask your internet service provider if they have an official or recommended one, or even ask another question here to get feedback from the group of peeps here.
