If I Damage or Lose My Phone, Does My Home Insurance Cover It?

“Great Question” (0points)

I’m in the UK, but if you know the answer for other countries, feel free to post it and help out others.

Would I have to pay a fee in the event of claiming (a partial amount of the cost to replace or repair it, for example)?

Also; do I have to register the item with my insurance company?

It’s an Apple iPhone.

Considering that your deductible will be more than the cost of the phone…

I don’t understand… I’m essentially considering whether or not I should insure my phone with O2. I’m a student living with my parents if that helps.

Insure it with O2. I doubt your parents would want to pay a 500 to 1500 deductible to replace a 400 phone.

If insurance with 02 is reasonable, get it.

Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean by deductible? The actual cost of the phone is £269, if there was a £500 – £1500 fee, why would anyone bother? Why not just buy a new one?

Insurance generally doesn’t cover 100% without an initial payment by the policy holder when a claim is made. This payment, the deductible, can range from a low amount to a high amount.

So exactly, you wouldn’t pay a deductible higher than the cost of your home owner’s deductible. Therefore, it wouldn’t make any sense to claim it on home owners instance unless there was a huge loss such as fire flood or a robbery and more than just your phone was lost or destroyed.

Again if 02 insurance is affordable, I would go with that.

Home insurance does not covers phone insurance. You need to appy for a separate insurance for your mobile. Mostly all expensive mobiles are pre- insured. You only need to enquire about it from your mobile dealer. All Nokia N series mobiles are pre – insured. Mobile insurance comes under general insurance.

Great answers, thanks so much. I’ll ring O2 today to get a quote then!
