As a means of transmuting base metals to precious metals, yes, scientifically there will always be an interest.
For the quest to materialize great human potential, I think will never cease.

I don’t think alchemy is a lost art in that it never achieved what alchemists hoped to achieve, the transmutation of lead to gold. However, neither is it an art lost in that folks are still interested in it to this day.

Or a bunch of bat-shit, like it really is.

It’s a mostly forgotten silliness.

We can watch alchemy in the night sky. An example is in the year 1054. Now look at the resulting Crab Nebula. Looks like art, doesn’t it?
