I had a job where I worked on the same floor as my mom, two totally different departments, though. What I got to see, which I never saw, was a totally different side of her. Not mom, I saw an independent woman. I saw this funny, lively woman – smart, tough, but fair and interesting. Not that I told my mom wasn’t smart, but I can say it was just different. Once a month, her girlfriends from work would go out together, after a few months, she invited me to join them. I didn’t go out with my mom that night, I went out with a friend. A hysterical, slightly wild, witty, smart, beautiful woman. I met another side her her that night. It was a great moment.
About a month later, my dad got a job offer and they moved. I stayed behind. It just wasn’t the same there. I didn’t see this woman that I admired walking through the hallways. Eventually, I found another job, then got offered a better job, out of state.
It was fun to see my mom at work, but I think, if we would have been in the same department, it would have been difficult. we’re very competitive!
