Thorntons do a diabetic range of sweets. I think Carab chocolate is suitable for diabetics too. My dad can eat both of them and he is diabetic, but wouldn’t like to state for definate on individual cases becaus I’m not a medical professional.
we’re talking about non sweet substitutes – not like diabetics. can you make candy without using a sweet base to crystalize it? can you have a steak flavored candy?
If they can mess about with crisps flavourings I am sure they can with sweets too. They can make sugar free sweets ie sugar free mints , like polos and stuff. They use Zorbitol I think- don’t ask me what it is I have no idea, reckon its some sort of sugar substitute, I do know that it is a mild laxative though!
are there all those sugar free guns and “lolly pops” out there? and im not sure what they use to make sour candy but sour is the opposite of sweet x) arent i the master of the obvious?
Not candy, exactly, but you take the meat and pulverize it with some water in the blender, then you put it in popcycle molds in the freezer. You end up with a frozen-type sucker.
Another way to do it is shred the meat, roll it in biscuit dough, and cook it. The resulting meat filled bread stick can then be eaten like a sucker.
you could definitely make a sucky unsweet. Jelly bellies is the good point, if they could make it chewy then they could make it sucky. I bet you could have a buttered popcorn sucker or even (if its like bertie botts jelly belly) a vomit flavored suckie. The sweetness is not a requirement, just a desire.
@judyprays
The definition of candy -Edible, sweet-tasting confectionery containing sugar, or sometimes artificial sweeteners, and often flavored with fruit, chocolate, nuts, herbs and spices, or artificial flavors.
Perhaps you’ve got dinner confused with dessert.
Or wait here it is! It’s a hard suckie that isn’t sweet.
If you’re really looking for no sweetness, then you’re out of luck. Hard candies are solids in an amorphous “glassy phase”. In other words they solidify without crystallizing, like glass does. Not many edible substances will do that. Aside from sugar, there are only the polyols (e.g. maltitol, isomalt, mannitol, erythritol), all of which are somewhat sweet.
@judyprays It’s looking like “steak candy” is out unless you like a sweet sauce on your steak. You’d be better off with “honey-glazed ham candy” as pork lends itself better to the addition of sweet flavors.
How about lollipop form? Either: shred the steak into small particles. Mix it with whatever you use to make clear lollipops (except sweetner). When it hardens, you have steak on a stick. I have seen lollipops with real BUGS inside.
OR, take a standard tootsie roll pop and replace the tootsie roll with a piece of steak.
I’ve wondered the same thing. Some of us have a habit of sucking on candies like Lifesavers, but we’d like something that isn’t sweet. I wonder if bouillon cubes would work? I haven’t tried it yet. That beef jerky idea might be good too. The patent site you referenced – who makes it to buy?
