Congress has the authority to regulate the militias in the U.S.. Since Congress made the national guard, we are not allowed to make any other militia. They answer to the governors of their originating state or the president. That is not a true militia of the people. It can be perversed and made a tool of tyranny.
3 Quotes here from Thomas Jefferson will hopefully make you see that we need grass roots involvement rather than state controlled forces.
“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”
“For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security.”
“Experience hath shown that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.”
I respect every member of every branch of our military. Our country deserves great respect as well. When our government meddles in affairs, home and abroad, it seriously degrades the reputation of our nation. Durning the times of our founders, militias were local, they were mandatory and they were independent of federal oversight.
We are to be overseeing the affairs of our government, not the other way around. All I can say is ” Welcome to Rome”.
