Apocalypse, etymologically speaking, is the uncovering, or lifting of the veil.
This in no way implies to me a violent ending, simply a transition.
If you want to assume a transition to recognition of the greater world currently beyond our perceptions, then I would expect it to be greeted with awe and wonderment. Much like the experience described by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.
If you are talking about a small asteroid striking the earth, I think there would be a lot of concern and blame and positive efforts to find a way forward. If you are talking about a large comet, then I would suspect a mixture of fear, prayer and reflection.
