Is it bad to brush with water after brushing your teeth or rinse with water after using Listerine?

“Great Question” (1points)

I hate the feeling/taste of toothpaste and Listerine, but I want to use them (obviously). I have taken to brushing with water after i brush with toothpaste and rinsing with water after using Listerine. Is this bad to do? Does it counteract the effects of the toothpaste or Listerine? I know that you’re not supposed to eat or drink after getting fluoride at the dentist, but is it the same with daily dental hygiene?

Apparently, it’s now bad to use Listerine at all.

Their review, published in the Dental Journal of Australia, concludes there is now ``sufficient evidence’’ that “alcohol-containing mouthwashes contribute to the increased risk of development of oral cancer’’.

@chris6137 Oh no! I love listerine

I guess in the end we should all go back to picking berries and hunting the occasional mammoth.

Ya listerine actually gives me a soar throat so I believe that.

But if you want it to work your not supposed to rinse after. At least that is what my dentist told me.

Rinsing after brushing is a-ok though.

@TaoSan That’d be my dream (seriously). I hope you weren’t being sarcastic because there are some cultures that fight for their rights to do just that (substitute mammoth for current creatures).

I use alcohol free mouthwashes. I’ve been told by dental students that they don’t really do much in the long term, but I still use mouth washes because I get cavities easily. It’s only 30 minutes you’re supposed to wait.

semi-sarcastic

Seems whatever humans invent inevitably turns against them at some point in time.
