Well I do not share the general consensus that dreams are meaningless or just an amalgam of your anxieties. Neither did Carl Jung, a very well respected psychologist.
I think that dreams have the capacity to be meaningless or just about our anxieties. I also believe they have the capacity to be more than that. It depends on the dream. The easiest way to explain which is which is this: if you wake up and can’t shake the dream then it is meaningful. Simple as that.
Now to get to the dream interpretation. :)
So it does not seem as if there were any relatives, friends, or deceased relatives/friends in your dream. No animals. So it is likely a message from yourself and not from outside yourself (as can occasionally happen). You could think of it as an expression of your anxieties like others have said or you could think of it as your higher self contacting you to give you a message.
On the surface your dream seems pretty evident. You are in war. People die. You are all alone. Things get worse. You are in the muck. Fire engulfs you. You burn. You die. This is about facing challenge and facing it alone. That is the first two points I would settle on. There is something in your life that is laying really heavy on you whether you realize it or not. And you are dealing with it alone or feel as if you are. Acknowledge this and access your resources or you’ll just get “stuck in the muck” :). The fact that your enemies are robots is also telling. There really is no human support and love around you in this dream. Is this at all resonant of your real life?? Or perhaps you are just entirely fed up with humans for some reason, you feel they are heartless and uncaring?? Machines also tend to symbolize basic functioning or rather lack of higher level functioning. This could indicate that you are fighting your body or your basic urges in some way. And fire tends to indicate passion and anger whereas burning indicates release of emotional energy. Being engulfed in fire seems painful but is more about being able to, being forced to, release what you have built up. It seem scary to let these emotions out but it is absolutely necessary. Ahhh and I almost forgot the muck. Dirty water. Water is life and birth and positive energy. It is the essence of living. And in your dream it is thick and dirty. And instead of protecting you as water should it becomes engulfed in flames. This is heavy stuff. No wonder it is sticking with you. Also death in a dream is more about rebirth or release. (it doesn’t mean you’ll die in real life or anything horrible like that).
To sum up all these parts it seems to me you need a release. You need to feel safe and supported. It almost seems to me like your safety is (or was) being challenged in some way either emotionally or physically. You don’t have to deal with this alone. You can have faith in your support system. I am editing to add this part. After re-reading the interpretation components it seems like this dream may be about sex. I can’t say in what way but there are many components in here that relate to sex or at least physical intimacy. And that you are not able to access it safely or without some type of pain. Perhaps it is as simple as your partner is out of town. Or maybe it has something to do with trying to get pregnant. That is just another idea.
Whether my interpretation was right or wrong is irrelevant. Hopefully it gave you something to start from. You can say “no that isn’t right i think it’s more about this.” and that is okay and great. It gives you something to bounce ideas from. Either way I would encourage you to participate in the ritual I posted below.
Sometimes rituals help us release such emotions. Perhaps you should spend some time in nature. Particularly at the water. I would say if this still bothers you then go out to the river and throw some worry stones. And don’t go alone. Bring a friend or family member. Worry stones: just pick out some rocks that resonate with you. Then tell each rock a worry. Say it out loud. Then throw it in the river. And let the water clean it and purify it and get rid of that worry for you. I would also, when done, go to the river and cup some water in my hands and wash off with the water. This ritual has a basis in two strong cultures that I know of.
