How do I type "أ" on an Arabic QWERTY keyboard?

I’m learning Arabic and can type quite well on my Mac using the Arabic QWERTY layout, but I can’t figure out how to type an أ (I think it’s an alif with a hamza on top)- I have to cut and paste it in. The only Arabic QWERTY keyboard layout guide I can find is too low-resoution to see it on.

shift plus the number three? [the row]

For these kind of things, i use PopChar.
Another solution is using the built-in character palette. To use it, enable the language bar in system preferences.

you can type easly by pressing shift + H
