Absolutely. Every single song that I listen to and own reminds me of some aspect of myself or my life. Whenever I share music with people, it makes me a little paranoid – because whether or not anyone realizes it, I’m revealing some part of myself to them. And that’s difficult for me to do usually.
It’s coincidence that what the band is singing about resonates with your life.
Pop Musicians try to appeal to the broadest range of people within a specific demographic as a means of maximizing music sales. This is why I don’t like pop music.
I guess my reasoning for that is that I believe the general tone and vibe of a song can affect you in a lot more of a way than just lyrics. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t stand some songs with shitty lyrics, but it’s really the instruments that speak to me in a song, rather than the singer.
Yes, especially if I am in an emotional state then the song reaches me more and banal lyrics have more impact than otherwise. Music heightens each sensation, as the Phantom has suggested….
Yes, two examples that come to mind are Songs About Me, By Trace Adkins, and Get Right with the Man, by Van Zant. Country music has this unique ability to speak directly to the heart and soul of almost everybody. Most people come to country music because they heard a song on the radio and were like “wow that’s MY life!”.
By contract, when I hear a song in a genre like alt rock, I wonder if these guys and I are evern from the same planet.
@Jack_Haas I feel the same way about country music. Which reminds me of the joke: What happens when you play country music backwards. The poor slob gets his car, his wife, his job, his kids and his dog back.
@evelyns_pet_zebra So true! Years ago I knew this guy who had just moved to Tennessee. He said “There’s not a lot to do around here but now I know 50 ways to say my truck broke down, my dog died and my wife left.”
I’m sorry people but I just went through all of my questions and I know this is an old one but I noticed I forgot to give out lurve so lurve for everyone enjoy!!
