Only in the sense that I’m prepping to deal with some kiddos who spent 3 days doing nothing but playing and not following my standards. Not dissing their parents. They are wonderful, but I have different expectations.
I always used to get the impression that after coming back from a holiday to school the teachers would pile on the homework, which is completely illogical as there wasn’t any time lost since the school year was planned to have that time missing in the first place…
Sometimes I have to work twice as hard to look busy after a holiday break. Come to think of it, I have to do this after returning from regular days off too, now and then.
I didn’t get a holiday, I had to work today. I work five days a week, no matter what, unless Big Green is on shutdown, and even then, I have to work at least three or four days at one gate or another.
Holidays are usually the busiest days for me, I’ve been pulling double shifts for a few days now. When I worked a “9–5” job, it mean more work, less time to get it done and extra pressure from clients and vendors.
I work a little harder after a holiday because the day off throws the court schedule out of whack. We have to fit the status calls and trials into a shortened week.
I generally work twice as hard on the holiday, because most people equate booze with celebrations. DUIs go up in number, as do domestic cases because people are getting together with relatives they may not see all that often.
Drinking puts the “fun” in dysfunctional families.
What’s the point of a vacation if all it does is increase your work pile such that you have to work twice as hard? I refuse to do it (working hard after a holiday) on that basis alone.
Nope, I work for a big company. When I go on vacation, my boss plans it such that I won’t have a stack of work waiting for me on my return. Sure I’ll have an email queue, but I can deal with that.
I have a hard time getting back into the groove of things. I have a harder time keeping track of what I’ve been working on and what not… I’m in that “what do I do now?” haze as I type…
As predicted, there’s a crapload of work to do today. Luckily I have a private sanctuary called the server room where my users don’t have access so I can have an uninterrupted lunch without the requisite “drive by’s”.
It’s worth it. I’d work extra had for four days, 10 hours a day if I could get that extra day off.
