General Question

If you had to disable one ability that you possess but it could not be one of your senses in its entirety nor something so insignificant that it didn't affect your regular life what would you choose?

“Great Question” (1points)

By “it could not be one of your senses in its entirety” I mean you cannot answer with ‘sight’, ‘hearing’, ‘touch’ etc but can answer with “the ability to see people” or “the ability to feel skin” etc.
I admit the question is somewhat confusing as it asks that a person disregard something of ‘medium value’ so to speak but I feel most will atleast understand the situation I am attempting to describe.
If anyone would care to offer an answer please explain why. I am curious of what peoples explanations for their choices shall be.

I feel like I’ve already lost the ability to understand what the heck you’re talking about.

kheredia's avatar

yeah, i’m with @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities on this one.. sorry.

My ability to calm mothers-in-law?

jonsblond's avatar

The ability to read a troll’s post.

Kayak8's avatar

My ability to lay eggs would be at the top of the list I guess . . .

With my disease (ALS), I loose the ability to use my voluntary muscles a little bit more each and every day. It sucks, but I cope. Still much to be grateful for and life is still worth living.

Blondesjon's avatar

I would disable my body’s need to poop.

ubersiren's avatar

The power to enjoy junk food.

ubersiren's avatar

@Blondesjon : I’m trying not to think of the alternative.

whatthefluther's avatar

@Blondesjon…We’ll call you eco-man (100% digestion…no waste)!

ubersiren's avatar

@whatthefluther : I think he would literally turn green.

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@Blondesjon But then you wouldn’t have scenarios like this.

whatthefluther's avatar

@ubersiren…good…he looks rather pale on his avatar.

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities @kheredia You can disable one ability but it has to be a significant ability (for example you can’t say “the ability to hear a duck farting…If humans can actually do that) and cannot simply be one of your senses as a whole. I apologise for the confusion but it’s a fairly difficult scenario to describe.

@ubersiren Smart answer. Do you think you would miss that ability?

@DarkScribe That is an essential ability

@Blondesjon You’re disabling your ability to poop, not your ability to digest so it unfortunately has to come out somewhere my friend

Blondesjon's avatar

@Nially_Bob . . .Didn’t I mention that I would sneeze it out?

looks like dark colored hankies for this guy

My ability to store fat on my ass… sure, the cushioning is nice at a NASCAR race, but I’d be willing to sacrifice that!

jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities's avatar

@juwhite1 You should probably sacrifice the NASCAR while you’re at it.

juwhite1's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities Can’t give it up! If I said the cushioning is nice at the rodeo, would that have worked better for you? The seats are already cushioned at the theatre and the opera, so I couldn’t really use those examples.

whatthefluther's avatar

@juwhite1….What’s with the lousy seating at every race track in the USA (except for the luxury boxes, of course)? Its not like it’s a cheap ticket to gain entry.

juwhite1's avatar

Totally off topic, but why do I always get seated by 300 pound men when the seats are numbered about a foot apart? Luckily, I’m a friendly girl, and I’ll take a cushioned lap over being sweezed into a tiny spot on a metal bleacher!

whatthefluther's avatar

@juwhite1…Yeah, but you can probably count on being soaked from all the splashed beer.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

The only thing I can think of is how much it would suck to lose a sense.
I’ve grown fond of all of them.

YARNLADY's avatar

I would like to give up the feeling of extreme temperatures, but that might be dangerous, if I couldn’t tell when something is too hot or cold.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

I would turn off my ability to expect better from mediocre people

ubersiren's avatar

@Nially_Bob : I might miss it, but I’d eventually find something else to fill that hole. Likely something healthier.

susanc's avatar

I would mysteriously lose my ability to shop for, cook, be entertaining during, and clean up after Thanksgiving dinner.
