It’s supposed to be for more off topic chats, but nobody really uses it. Occasionally people would for a “Jelly-Table”, but those seem to have died too.
I hung out in the chatroom for two or three days back when I stopped coming to the rest of Fluther. When I was there, we were talking about events occurring on the site.
As with the rest of the site’s popularity, it seems to be busiest during North America’s evenings.
If it wasn’t clear in my message above, I stopped going to the chat room after those few days. I don’t really consider it a part of the website, to me it’s more of a back room, where you go when you need a spare light bulb.
If I was consistently on Fluther for longer periods of time, I would go in there. But I usually drop in and out of the site, so I really wouldn’t spend much time in there anyway. And I hate it when people just lurk in chat rooms. It’s a little weird.
It’s sometimes used for, um, more inappropriate conversations than what you’ll see posted on the main site. ;)
Chat room etiquette is different that other formats – it takes a little while to get the hang of following multiple conversations at once (or being able to pick out the one convo that you’re participating in).
By the way, there are two different chat rooms. The Man O’ War is for talking with administrators, and the Corral Reef is for leisure chat. There’s generally not many people in the Man O’ War.
