How do illusionist tricks work?

“Great Question” (1points)

Like me choosing a random card (having seen the others) and then that card shows up on the illusionist’s mouth? Stuff like that. I’d like to ask you what sites etc can you refer me to. I had a guy do some tricks informally right before my eyes. I debunked one of them, with sponge balls. But the others I just couldn’t. I wouldn’t mind knowing one or two tricks either, but most of all I want to know what the heck is going on.

Magicians and anyone else who knows the secrets aren’t allowed to tell us mere mortals. :(

My Dad was a stage and close-up magician, and I was his assistant for several years. We performed at the Magic Castle in Los Angeles in 1965.

there are magic shops that sell ‘tricks’ and for the truly interested person, clubs that teach the begining performer. Most of the really great stage productions are made by highly skilled, experienced professional designers. The work they do is very similar to the special effects workers in the movie industry.

There are several shows on TV that reveal magic techniques, and several sites on the internet. Do a search for “magic tricks revealed.”
