Let’s say someone sends you a facebook message, or a text message… when’s a time you wouldn’t reply to it?

I’m just wondering since, sometimes people don’t respond to what i write to them, such as “how’s your summer going” to a friend (not that close). What’s the deal with that?, do they not want to talk to me/ hang out?

I messaged someone that i secretly admire who is my friend, but he never replied to it :(.

I’d never ignore a message. I guess it’s the old “do unto others” thing, for one thing. I’D not want to be ignored. I can only think of one instance on here that I didn’t respond to a message. Because if I had, it’d been an instance where I was fixing to get snarky & I thought it best to just let the matter drop, & I did.

When you don’t feel like it.

Most of the time, I don’t answer. I’m just antisocial like that. I don’t generally enjoy talking to people, especially if we’re “not that close.”

To answer the unspoken question, “When would I answer a message like that?” – if we’re especially close, or if they need important information, or sometimes if they’re trying to foist off B.S. as fact. Those’ll get me to answer. ;)

I always reply, unless it’s the obviously last in a series, eg “goodnight” after I’ve already sent somethiing like “ok see you tomorrow then”. Whenever I get any message, whether it’s an sms or an email, or even a long letter, I always find the time to answer, usually straightaway. I even did this back when I had more mail than I could handle. It’s a sign of respect.

I barely ever respond. If there isn’t a specific request for information I don’t reply.

This drives my mom crazy. She will email me with “Just saying hi.” I don’t respond and she gets pissed off.

Usually if I don’t respond it’s because I didn’t have enough time when I first read the message, and then I forgot… then by the time I remember (usually not till I randomly see the message again!) it’s bee too long and it’d be weird to respond. :)

If I don’t respond, it’s because I don’t have anything to say.

When it is strictly spelled out int the restraining order that I shouldn’t.

If I feel the person is trying to manipulate me or if I can’t stand the person and don’t want to be friends.

If it looks like a ‘canned’ message or says something like “thank you”, or “look at this” or “you’ve invited to this or that website” and I have no idea what it’s about.

@johnpowell, -it must be a mom thing; it pisses me off too, when there’s no acknowledgement—

It is usually when the response requires more time than I have at the moment. I intend to get back to it, but have been known to forget.

No comment. (This is a message in the form of a question right?)

i usually reply regardless of how much i like the person. but if i don’t reply, it’s just because i’m lazy or have nothing to say. more often than not, the first one. i can’t tell you how many times i’ve opened a message, and even thought ‘oh, that’s sweet, i need to reply to them…later’, and then didn’t. just because i forgot/never felt like it/planned on writing something better later than i would have at that moment.

@Supacase, i think that was the case, i got a reply awhile ago, he had just gotten back from vacation. lol..
