@johnny0313x: The art and design are very nice. You need a writer and line-by-line editor for the text. And never start a promo with an apology.

I would make the header a little smaller. I like it when headers on sites don’t take up about half of my 13” screen. Don’t forget about the people with little monitors.

Honestly that was not my purpose I just feel Fluther generally has some harsh members that are not afraid to speak the truth and the replies are far more immediate then most forums. If I wanted to promote my site I would probably think of something more creative then this heh

What do you mean by line by line editor?

Nothing to apologize about. An editor who checks the text in the most minute detail, ie. reading every line, picking up misuse of homonyms (“your” for “you’re”), lack of parallel construction, repetition, misspelling, confusing punctuation.

The first seven words sound apologetic. You need a strong and confident opener.

I can write but would certainly have a good designer do any drawings or illustrations that I wanted. And vice versa.

I gave up waiting for some of the featured art to load. I think on Web, About Me and View All, if not other pages.

Your resume is unique, but I doubt if many potential employers will like printing out a full color resume.

How does one get back to the Home page? I saw a missing word on there “learning about website (?) when”

@fireside: Good point about not getting back home, originally the logo was suppose to do that but it was an oversight and forgot in the end.

As for the resume they actually told us in school to do them differently then a standard resume since it’s Graphic Design and all. Not saying everything you are taught in school is correct(because it’s not) How does everyone else feel about this?

You might want to set your text-align to justify. I think it looks a little better. And toss in some extra padding. I ended up with this.

I don’t do design. It is just my personal preference. The jagged text kinda bothers me.

@johnpowell: weird I just updated Firefox and the text is centered for me and the menu problem doesn’t exist.

I was actually saying that using text-align: center; was the problem. I just think it looks better justified.

And it looks like a new versions of Prototype and scriptaculous are out. You might want to try upgrading to those. The fix might be in there. It looks like Eambos and dverhey are having the same problem too.

The resume needs some work. First, red will print black on a black and white printer or fax. The yellow text is not going to have enough contrast for it to read easily.

Second, you should move work experiences up to top and remove non graphic design related jobs. Also please move the graphic apps to the left side instead of the Microsoft apps. You need to think what will a company look for and show them those info first.

I’ve been in graphic design for over 20 years. A clean and effective resume which shows your logical and commuicational skills will get you a job much quicker than a fancy design one.

Lastly, I suggest to post your JPG version on the resume page and give visitor a choice to download the PDF version.

@ckinyc – I agree with everything you said but work experience at the very top? That seems kind of off, not to doubt you but I can’t say I am ever seen a resume like that before.

Also the reason I listed my other jobs were to show team work and communication skills, is that not a good idea?

I agree with putting the graphic apps first. Those are your bread and butter.

I would suggest the following order:
Skillset
Work experience
Education

Also, I disagree with ckinyc as far as removeing the non-graphic design related jobs in this case for two reasons. It shows solid employment. They are also very very related fields. It would be quite palatable to see that kind of experience and familiarity on a resume such as yours. That is just my opinion. I have 17 years of experience 9 as a manager.

To be honest the yellow and red contrast is difficult for me to read. That may be my eyes. But if you stay with it. You could offer a “for print/fax” link

Some suggestions about the visual experience:

Try aligning things more and making the edges more visually similar.

For instance, if the set of links at the top (such as Print, Portraits, etc) had square corners and was the same width as the main portion of the site, that would help.

Also, I would avoid having main horizontal features all the way across at the top and then only part-way on the side.

For an example of this, look at the top of the Fluther website – the main portion of the page is the same width across the page, but there is a simple and not-too intrusive background across the top. You could easily do this with your site by moving the chibi-you and the featured links closer together on a plain red background and using the wallpaper-type design in the background.
