What should I use to season my rice and beans?

My recipe calls for Goya Sazon but I don’t have any at home. What can I substitute?

If that’s a Spanish/Mexican seasoning mix, I’d go with 1 part salt, 1part black pepper, 1 part cumin, 1/2 part each coriander, garlic powder, and onion powder, and maybe a bit of chili powder or cayenne to taste.

It’s crazy, but my ex used to use a little teriyaki marinade. And it tasted wonderful.

for next time – black beans are really good with garlic, salt, oil, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, and OREGANO (fresh, but dried works too)

I suggest furikake. This is what the Japanese use to season rice and comes in a wide variety of flavors and styles. One of my favorites has shiso leaf and sesame seed in it. You can find it at a Japanese grocer, or possibly at a catch-call asian grocer. You can also order it online from places like Eden foods: Eden Foods Eden Shake

I like mine fairly plain. Chili powder, salt, and fresh, chopped cilantro (coriander if you’re in Europe), added at the end, not heated with the rice and beans.
