I loved:
“Song of the Dodo” by David Quammen
“Living on the Wind” “The Ghost with Trembling Wings” and other works by Scott Weidensaul
“Flight Maps” by Jennifer Price
“Wild Nights: Nature Returns to the City” by Anne Matthews
“the Meadowlands: Wilderness Adventures on the Edge of a City” by Robert Sullivan
“Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder” by Richard Louv
I would also recommend nearly anything by Wendell Berry or Robert Michael Pyle.
I kind of thought I would hate “Ishmael” by Daniel Quinn because of the premise – the talking gorilla thing seemed really stupid to me – but I actually kind of liked it.
