Typically the older ipods are firewire/USB agnostic, so either one would work.. As you can see depicted with this product..

Anyway from seeing your photo, I believe that that ipod may still have the elongated plug that I linked to before.. If so, borrow a friend’s ipod/iphone USB cable and try it out.. If it works, use one of those, if not, as johnpowell states, try a $20 knock-off or a newer model. You’ll be glad you did.
Man, to be honest, you should really get a newer (used) ipod.. I would imagine that particular model wouldn’t hold a charge very well being so old.
