I remember when I was a kid playing Heroes of Might and Magic (HoMM III, to be specific), I remember it had a random map generator, and looking at the wiki page, the most recent (HoMM V) has it as well.
Not sure if it’s exactly like how it’s handled in AoM but you may want to investigate that.
I like randomized maps/levels/dungeons in a game. I like to replay games as different classes or factions or difficulties (depending on what kind of game it is), while the randomization itself doesn’t make me want to replay the game, it makes me a lot less reluctant to do so.
But I don’t think it should be a primary feature. That was one of the major selling points for Hellgate: London, and the game failed commercially (The company fell into the crapper, and the servers were shut down, so it’s now a single-player only game).
