** FOR WINDOWS XP **
Although not all techies would call this the standard (1.5x your RAM is the standard), its perfectly fine to do (as long as your hard drive is not almost full):
- RIght-click my computer and choose PROPERTIES
– Read the part of this page that says ### OF RAM and remember the number
– Click on the ADVANCED tab
– Under PERFORMANCE, choose SETTINGS
– Click on the ADVANCED tab
– Click CHANGE (at the bottom)
– In the middle, choose CUSTOM and enter 2x the amount of RAM that you have. Ex: If ### OF RAM said 514, enter 1028 in both the INITIAL SIZE and MAXIMUM SIZE boxes.
After doing this, you shouldn’t receive that warning message again. If you do, your computer is not capable of running your chosen applications and needs more RAM, at a minimum.
Don’t forget how cheap new computer systems are today. Don’t get ripped off on 1GB of RAM for $100 instead of buying a computer 20x faster for $400.
Good luck
