I totally lack some amount of fulfillment. I’m in a rut after 4 years of being a stay-at-home-mom even though I adore her and wouldn’t trade the full experience of her early years for anything. I just need something to supplement it, stimulate my mind and give me a sense of personal accomplishment beyond being a mom.

Well my life ain’t empty, I just enjoy it here alot.

Sarcasm's avatar

No.
I’d say that my life is temporarily so empty.

Right now, I’m out of college for the semester, and am moving to another town in the next day. There’s really not a lot else I can do but hang around and wait.

I think this is a very pejorative question, and I wonder why you make invidious assumptions about your fellows. After all, you are “on” this site, are you not? Look at some profiles of some of the most active Flutherites, and see if you think they lead empty lives. And you may wish to consider a course in elementary ettiquette.

It’s a means of entertainment, much like watching a movie or tv. However, with sites like fluther, one often learns more than they expected. People post questions about life, education, politics, current events, etc. These things are not often learned through tv or movies.

What’s so different about facebook, myspace and twitter? I think it’s great for you that you know all the answers to life or are confident enough to face them on your own. For me personally that is not true. I do have friends to ask about stuff that’s on my mind, but I find this site encourages me to think about stuff out of my normal life/comfort zone.

@pdworkin: ::(( giant lurve hug )):: for that answer.

Truth is my life so full, I often come here to escape. Fluther helps me focus and I enjoy interacting with intelligent people.

tinyfaery's avatar

You joined an hour ago. What could you possibly know about this site?

Sarcasm's avatar

To be fair, OP did say “sites of this ilk” and could be addressing the tons of websites that have similar formats to this.

DominicX's avatar

No. I access this site on my iPhone a lot, which means I’m out and about and just have some extra time.

This site is a small amount of life, really. Most of the time I am not on here, even though it might seem I am on here all the time. :)

Like @Supacase , I am a stay at home mom. Checking in on Fluther is something I do for a bit of peace now and then through the day, or once the kids go to bed. I find it fascinating to read about other people’s experiences and perspectives. I’m pretty sure that if my fellow Flutherites had empty lives, this place would be very boring.

@tiny one does not have to partake to have a point of view.

SuperMouse's avatar

Do you have nothing better to do that sign up for sites such as these to bait the members? That my friend is a sorry state of affairs.

@pdworkin lurve for a great answer!

cyn's avatar

I have enough time to do anything, go out with friends, smell the fresh air, be on fluther helping people out and being helped out, school, and rather you call this lack of life: this is everything!

Terrier's avatar

It would seem that the wrong end of the stick has been taken here.
Is it not possible that because you find people in the same boat on here that you find solace in the fact that things are not how you would like them to be because there are more of you?(birds of a feather)
No judgement, because it’s not really real life and therefore it won’t matter how people percive you because they can’t know you.
Is there something lacking in your life that makes you join up to these sites?
Looking at the scoring of some participents it lookslike this is your life and i wonder why you would waste the valuable time that life gives you by sitting and talking to an Avatar

cyn's avatar

@Terrier We have the freedom to put a picture of ourselevs here on fluther.
Sometimes the avatars decribes who you are.

drdoombot's avatar

I have tons of other things to do, like study for the law school admission test I have coming in a few months, working on my applications, writing book and comic reviews, fixing my PVR, etc.

However, I’m a procrastinator and this site is so distracting.

dpworkin's avatar

Johan Wolfgang von Goethe once sad, “There is nothing worse than aggressive stupidity.”

I’m sure this will not be the last occasion I will have to mention this quotation on Fluther.

SuperMouse's avatar

@Terrier which end of the stick would you have taken and what exactly is your point here? I can’t see any reason for you to make these comments except to raise ire. So what is lacking in your life that you spend time on sites trying to stir up trouble? You took the time to register, ask a question, and post two answers (so far) on a site that you believe only unfulfilled people participate in – does that not put you in the “unfulfilled” category?

thrice2k3's avatar

Unless you’re trolling… how is it that one might view helping someone and being “empty”? Some might argue that helping someone or expanding someones knowledge is the path to fulfillment…

Nially_Bob's avatar

It’s an interesting thought, to some extent I may come here to fulfill intellectual curiosity or to divert loneliness but neither has been conciously confirmed on my part. To my awareness I simply enjoy participating on the website for similar reasons to why some enjoy watching movies or others enjoy playing videogames, none of these activities may be the most progressive but people do them because, generally, it makes them happy and to claim that they are only participated in by those leading ‘empty lives’ is a grossly invalid statement given the readily available counter-evidence.

tinyfaery's avatar

Yeah. You can have an opinion, but it will be an opinion based on nothing. In other words, you don’t know anything about this site.

Hambayuti's avatar

On the contrary, I think everyone here is overflowing with fulfillment that they actually need a site like Fluther to share and spread what they have gained and learned in life. I bet you got tired talking to yourself that’s why you took time to register and start a scene here. Deep inside, you know “talking with an avatar” would give you the fulfillment you’re looking for…something you don’t get when there’s just you and the voices in your head arguing with your imaginary friends.

Jayne's avatar

Most people spend much of their downtime watching TV, playing video games, surfing youtube, etc. We spend it talking, joking and debating with other living people. Which is more “fulfilling”?
Not that I can claim never to waste time on the other things as well :)

Hambayuti's avatar

@Terrier Oh…and by the way, welcome to Fluther! I hope you feel very much welcomed and decide to stay.

Hambayuti's avatar

>>> fingers crossed <<<

dynamicduo's avatar

Nope! I am quite fulfilled in my life. I view sites like these as ways for me to share my knowledge that I have gained and am gaining as a result of my fulfilled life.

Plus, it’s no worse spending time here than spending it in front of the boob tube. In fact, at least with websites like this the interaction is two way, instead of staring at a screen of people living pretend lives.
