Severe blood loss?? Go to an ER. A good first step if you’re not sure would be to call the dentist or oral surgeon’s office and ask if this is normal or whether there is something that you should do.
It took me about 48 hours for bleeding to completely stop when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I spend those 48 hours folding up wads of gauze pads and biting down on it and holding it in place.
If there is severe bleeding, I would def go back to the doctor. If its just minor then you just gotta wait.
Elevate, keep the head up, lowers blood pressure at the site of the wound.
Compression, use cotton or gauze to make wads, put in place and bite down GENTLY
Ice, use ice packs to cool the area to constrict blood flow.
Some light bleeding should be expected even after 24hrs.
It may help to coat the gauze in a clove tea before putting it on the hole. Also, make sure they don’t smoke or suck from a straw. Nothing worse than a dry socket!!
My sister’s father in law was a dentist and he had a clove concoction he mixed up himself to put in the socket.
I never had bleeding stop in less than a day. I think it was considered normal. It took a couple of days for it to clear up completely. I made sure to sleep with an old towel folded over on the pillowcase.
Thanks all.
Problem resolved after a midnight dash to A+E (ER), after a five hour wait due to the usual Friday nights casualties, several stitches were put in. Not a nice day at all for my eldest daughter or for us.
This site really came through , from the first answer to the last.
Thanks again.
