Who the hell wants it to be more serious? I think we have a fantastic ratio of serious to silly going here, most of us do. So hush your mouth.

Why would you want to? Humor is the best condiment to life!

For those who want it to be more serious, there is a way, i think.
Add to your question, in bold capitals, the word serious.

There are some silly questions on Fluther, but there are some pretty serious issues discussed here as well. I daresay The Collective shines when asked the difficult questions, they always seem to come through with some pretty great insights. Not to mention that Fluther in general, and Shilolo in particular have actually saved at least one life. All in all I would call Fluther the perfect mix of serious and silly.

This kind of thing comes and goes. Questions seem to breed like questions. If you’d like to see more serious content, ask a serious question or two and get the ball rolling! In general, I’d argue that Fluther is more serious than not.

If you want something “more serious” go join a cult or something.
Fluther is as real as it gets.(maybe even better) And the sillyness makes it all more fun.

I don’t see why everyone has to conform to seriousness on fluther. In fact, I’d rather take any silly and nonsensical question over some brainless question the author was too lazy/stupid to JFGI

If you don’t like silliness, just skip the silly questions. You can also try asking more serious questions, to tip the balance.

Perhaps you could create your own Q&A site and impose some serious restrictions on what everyone posts.

You could even call it serious.wah.

The awesome thing about Fluther is, there are times where we all can be serious and times when we can just let go and have a good time.

I asked a serious question one time about politics, only got 3 people interested in replies. I don’t think there is as big of a market for “critical thinking” as you may think.

there are plenty of serious topics on fluther. and plenty of hilarious ones. and plenty of ones that some find hilarious, and some find serious.

there’s also plenty of people who take things way way too serious.

What is the definition of a “serious question?” Can you provide examples of serious questions? [Oh look, two serious questions in a row; what can possibly be happening?]

I’ve asked and seen many serious questions. People who don’t like the site, don’t come back. The technology is really pretty irrelevant unless people use it for their own good. Use it, or don’t. Be serious if you like. Really, the community is only what all its members make it.

Perhaps like some of you state “serious” is not the right word for this discussion, but can’t seem to put my finger on the right one.

Just like LKidKyle1985, I tried ask some “serious” questions, but didn’t get any feedback on them. On the other hand starting a discussion like this one on Fluther, isn’t only fun, but also gave some nice answers like the one of SuperMouse. I could immediately see that he put time in reacting to this discussion and ofcourse lurved him and some others for their answers.

To answer to Tink1113: I really didn’t start this discussion to F###**! with the Fluther community.

Will ofcourse continue to give answers to tech, GTD and funny questions.

i think fluther has done pretty well at containing both just the right amount of funny, and just the right amount of seriousness. though a lot of questions have a lot more silly than serious, i think it’s charming. you can surely still get plenty of serious answers where you need them in most cases, it’s just that you’ll get a lot of laughs along the way. if i want serious, i’ll read the encyclopedia. (;

I think having the complete gamut from silly to super serious or super cerebral is one of the assets of Fluther. I also think it’s entirely appropriate (depending on the subject) to insert a wise ass remark or an aside into a serious conversation, as long as the intention is not to derail the string.
