Should I just get a 1080p monitor or go for a higher resolution?

I’m looking for a new monitor to use with my MacBook. I can’t decide whether to go for something that has a resolution of 1920×1080 and an HDMI input (like this Dell: http://lin.cr/06kg )or a higher resolution like 2048×1152 and no HDMI input (like this Samsung: http://lin.cr/06kh).

I don’t really have an immediate need for HDMI on a computer monitor, but I do think it could be useful at times. Most of the time I think having more screen real estate would be better than having the expandability of HDMI. What are your thoughts?

Never go 16:9, get a 16:10 monitor. 1920×1200 is much nicer to use than 1920×1080. 120 pixels might not seem like much, but it everday usage, you’ll really notice.

HDMI has a higher bandwidth than DVI, which is usefull on high res and high refresh rate screens. At the resolutions you’re using, it realy shouldn’t be necessary to use HDMI.

Its actually surprisingly hard now to find a monitor that’s 16:10. I wish I could because I would love the extra height.
