Well.. the problem is, that even if I cut the cable… which I’m not sure anyone here will do for me—I need to get it out of my computer so that I don’t walk around with what appears to be a stolen laptop.

By answering this question, we’d be basically telling you or anyone reading this how to steal a laptop.

Then go back to asking a locksmith, contacting the company that made it, or laminate a copy of the bill of sale made out to you and attach it to the laptop.

Or buy a new laptop.

The “quick help” part at the end is humorous to me.

I’m imagining a person online at the library or at the school computer lab, researching how to steal the computer they are currently using.

Call the maker of the lock for any suggestions. Last resort contact maintaince at school to cut you free after proof of ownership is shown. Good luck

I’m not trying to steal the computer, I assure you… as I would have it better planned out than this—and I want the quick help, as I’m not a huge fan of my laptop being chained to my bed :)

Would have to agree with @The_Compassionate_Heretic , I’d think people are more hesitant to help out on this question since it’d remove the purpose of laptop locks in the first place. Even if you are the owner, you’d risk everyone else who uses one. Best suggestion would be to get the lock manufacturer, 2nd best would be a locksmith. I’d doubt the school maintenance could help, might damage your mac.
