I understand shows after a certain time allow foul words , yet in a soap opera they can show people having affairs , murders , explosions , guns and such . Yet when it comes to swearing its a big no no ok this is only for before the watershed shows but if you had a friend who slept with your soon to be wife , you would swear and curse yet in the show they just show a punch . Some of the situations on these shows would fit better with some foul words and gestures , it would make it more believable to those who watch them i am not one of those people . I am not saying swear like troopers i am saying use the odd word or two when the time calls for it .

Because, in the US, they’d be subject to fines and what not?

Change the rules a little block major words and allow little words , we are in 2009 now tv laws and regulations should change to fit the times .

One hears enough people using vulgar language in day-to-day life. I suppose at this point, it’s just convention. And we’d have enough people calling for a boycott that to the networks, it’s not worth the hassle.

I heard “Paul Kinsey” on Mad Men say “bullshit” on Sunday’s ep, though. But I guess basic cable is not the same as national network, and 10pm is the watershed in the US.

I do find it interesting that swear words seem to cause more offence than violent behaviour such as punching on TV.
