i currently use a Targus cooling pad and it is a bit smaller than my MBP. The fans used to run off the USB port, but I souped it up a bit by using a 6V external adaptor. That increased the airflow pretty good, but at the cost of additional wear. The design flaw in the Targus is that it is all plastic so doesn’t of itself help conduct heat from the bottom of the laptop. It relies on two 3” fans to pull air in from the sides of the pad and exhaust them out a port on one of the long edges. The rubber nubbins included with the plate are inadequate to keep my ‘portable’ computer from sliding right off, so I turned it around, removed the nubs and inserted dowels in the holes. Now it doesn’t slide. When this one dies, I going hunting for a metal heat-sink with a fan, failing that, I will construct one for myself and post design stuff so other folks can custom build their own loin savers.
