I just want to make sure Im not wanting this for the wrong reasons.
I think it would be cool and interesting to do surgery, I want to become a more intelligent person, I know as long as the people are grateful/ appreciative of my serves/work I do for and to help them I would be satisfied and get a good feeling, and lastly their salary is good and I want to have money when I get older.

They seem just as good as any… just make sure you have a talent for it… and besides who is to say what is a right or a wrong reason for a career choice?
If you are waiting to feel a higher calling or something more profound, I think you will have to wait in vain. Few people wake up one morning and feel they need to do something particular with their life. Most of us just rationalize until we find a decent fit.
Good luck!

If you want to, that’s good enough. It’s OK to trust that feeling in a case like this.

8 years of school will and huge personal debt weed out the people that are only interested in surgery because of TV shows and urban folklore.
If that’s what you want to do, good luck. It’s going to be a lot of hard work.

Most surgeons start their day really early, stand on their feet for long periods of time, and have huge loans to pay off. “Cool” is not an adjective I would ever use to describe the surgeons whom I know and who have operated on me.

I want skill, experience, knowledge, dexterity, probity, board certification and some decent bedside manners.

Take biology, chemisty and physics courses to see how you respond to the intellectual side of medical science. Try to sew a button on with one hand or remove a splinter without causing an infection.

If you believe that you have it in you to become a good surgeon who can help people than no matter whatever reasons you have, it’s a good reason. Surgeons are always going to be needed and that’s why they get paid very well, for all the trouble they go through to become one.

I would hope that a desire to help people would be first on your list. It would be nice if you have a fascination with the intricacies of the human body, and you would love to put in the years of practice necessary to become a really effective surgeon.
