I think it is some sort of soft rubber.

Pencil erasers are traditionally a vulcanized rubber (originally plant based, so latex). Modern erasers are either synthetic rubber (the kind you’ll find on the back of a pencil) or vinyl (the white ones you’ll find on drafting tables)
