How long can you voluntarily control your blinking for?

I find it interesting reading about all the functions in our own bodies that we can’t control, such as our heart beats and cell devision.

Obviously we all know we can control a few things which are often involuntary i.e breathing, blinking

So I was just wondering, how long could you, or a person in general, actively control blinking for, before forgetting and then realising it has become involuntary again, which would probably repeat the whole process

I need to stop procrastinating

I think the longest I’ve gone without blinking has been around 10 minutes, but my eyes begin to dry out. It happens often when I play Tetris. (no more procrastination!)

I can do it for about the blink of an eye.

Not long, coz my contacts dry out.

No no what I mean is controlling it. You know how someone can say ‘think about blinking’ and you start consciously choosing when to blink..and then you get annoyed because you want it to become an unconscious action

(consciously was the word I should’ve used in the question)

Oh! Not for very long because it gets boring. I concentrate on blinking rather than other things. I’d say 10 minutes is still an appropriate approximation.

@Syger Really? I didn’t think blinking was really as easily influenced as breathing, probably because we’re always aware on some level, that blinking is occurring. I’m certainly more aware of it now that we’re talking about it, but I’m not forcing myself to blink.

I’ve never timed it, but I’ve also never lost a blinking contest.
Having contacts in makes it way easier for me to not blink. Things get blurry, but I can go a long time when I try, or if a quarter bet is on the line. :)

I am no where near the skills of non-blinking zen master Dick Cheney
