I need math help! My boyfriend usually helps me figure things out, but he is not here right now, and this is going to drive me crazy!

A December promotion of 1500 vases to retail at $40 each is planned. The buyer requires a 48.5% markup and has made an initial purchase consisting of 1200 units costing $23 each. What is the cost to be paid on each remaining unit? Is the buyer in a predicament?...Okay, the answer is $11, however I don’t know how or why. Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Let’s see if I can figure this out… it’s kinda early…

So, the buyer plans on selling 1500 vases at $40 each…
$40×1500 = $60,000

And needs a markup of 48.5%, thus the cost of the goods would take up 51.5% of the overall cost….
$60000×0.515 = $30,900

And the person has already bought 1200 units at $23 each…
$23×1200 = $27,600

So the remaining cost “allowed” would be…
$30,900 – $27,600 = $3,300

And they need 300 more vases (1500 – 1200), thus….
$3,300 / 300 = $11!
