@jbfletcherfan let’s see here:
StopSign? Never heard of it, sounds awul
Avira- pretty reputable, has a decent following. I’d say either that or AVG is your best free bet.
It is usually a bad idea to run more than one security software application simultaneously, as they can interfere with each other and fight over system resources, but I can’t say whether or not A-Squared Free overlaps with Avira as I have never used A2Free.
I prefer CCleaner to Abexo Free, but thats just a matter of track record and personal preference.
For free protection, I’d say you’re doing pretty well.
The main thing you get from paid protection that you don’t get from free software is real time monitoring. Meaning that your computer is constantly defending itself, rather than just scanning for bad things that have already gotten in.
I can readily recommend Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 and ESET Smart Secuirty 4 as the best paid programs, they run about $60 a year.
whatever you do please stay away from terrible paid programs such as Norton, McAffe, BitDefender, Panda, PC-Cillin. (there’s tons more but those are the worst)
or, you could just save yourself all this headache and buy a Mac :]
