Anyone have experience with Medical Transcription?

“Great Question” (1points)

A friend of mine has an Aunt who is a Medical Transcriptionist. She apparently makes a LOT of money and works from home. I’d love to have a job like this to help pay off my debt from college.

ANYWAY.. My question is – do any of you have experience with this? I’m curious as to if you can start without experience (most websites say 2 years min. But does it REALLY matter?). Any information is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance, by the way.

Why don’t you ask your friend’s Aunt?

I have known several friends who did this and made money. They either had trining in medical terminology or took training before they started.

@erichw1504 I’ve asked the friend to ask the aunt and yadda yadda. But I’m being impatient.. hah. Just trying to get my feet wet lol

@pinkparaluies OK, I was just wondering if you asked her and what she said.

@erichw1504 Yeah, it may take a few days to get a response.

@pinkparaluies The 2 year minimum is because Medical Transcription requires 100% accuracy. If you are accurate, it wouldn’t matter but what proof would you have to prospective employers.

@YARNLADY Well I’ve heard that some of the “work at home” websites have quizzes. So.. we shall see.

You definitely need to know medical terminology well and have a very high level of accuracy. This is where experience/references are useful.

Also be aware that transcription jobs are slowly being replaced with digital recorders and transcription software.
