I get up early and start cooking some bacon. As it gets crispy I’ve just finished preparing some diced potatoes and cooked a couple of eggs. I’ve ensured that the eggs are over well and that the potatoes are just right (salt, pepper, a bit of chopped onion and bell pepper, and just the slightest hint of cumin).
I have two kinds of hot sauce: red and green. I sprinkle the red hot sauce (not the green) on the potatoes and the green hot sauce (not the red) on the eggs. I place the bacon, the eggs and the potatoes onto a plate and drop a couple pieces of cilantro onto the plate to make it look like I’m a chef (which I’m clearly not).
I quickly make some coffee in the little 4 cup coffee maker. I put just a smidgen of sweetener and some flavored creamer into a coffee mug. Ding! The coffee is done. I pour the hot coffee into the cup which instantly dissolves the sweetener and mixes the creamer. I put exactly 3 pieces of ice into the cup to cool the coffee.
It’s at this point that my wife, rubbing her eyes, meanders sleepily down the stairs. Behind her through the window by the stairs I can see the sun rising.. burnt orange, reds, yellows, blues and purples. She was awakened by the aroma of the food and coffee but doesn’t full realize what’s happening until she opens her eyes.
It doesn’t always happen.. but on rare occasions she ever so slightly tilts her head to one side and says “Aww honey, that’s so sweet of you!”
It’s this moment.. created by nature (by complicated extension) that I enjoy most of all.
(if you’re looking for just plain nature… yeah.. I like sunrises in the mountains.)
