Better to force fluids, drink tea with lemon (and rum possibly), have hot soup and get some rest. The OTC meds can exacerbate the symptoms. With or without, the cold will run its inexorable 7 days.

@dembboyz16: A blood thinner, like Coumadin, is used to prevent blood clots, that can travel to the brain and cause a stroke.
