10.6.2 disabled OS X from running on Atom processors. So you could install up to 10.6.1 but after that you are stuck without doing some hacks.

I think I once successfully installed OS X on an Apple notebook, but I’m a rebel like that.

Spend a couple bucks. Won’t kill you.
