If it’s going to be in your bedroom, in a corner away from direct sunlight, I would recommend a Ficus lyrata, or the fiddle-leaf fig plant. It has big, bold, glossy leaves, and it doesn’t need much sunlight to thrive. It’s also relatively inexpensive as a tree-sized plant, and handsome looking like most ficus plants. Another fig plant that looks good and is hardy is the Alii fig, or Ficus macclellandii. Both the fiddle-leaf fig and the Alii fig are tolerant houseplants, withstanding being moved around, missed waterings, and lower light. I would avoid plants that have “thin-textured” leaves like ferns and some palms. They are finnicky and will drop their leaves readily and make a mess in the bedroom. For me, the fiddle leaf fig and the Alii fig are good tree-like houseplants. Here are pictures of both trees—-
