I have this non working 36 inch TV that is just taking up space. Should I just put It buy the dumpster or recycle it? I hear It cost money to recycle TVs. What would you do?

In our area they have free electronics disposal days. Check with your local city or county.

You never know, there might be someone out there who wants particular parts from your set and they’d be willing to come pick it up from you.

Several organizations and schools take in e-waste and TV’s for fundraising.

I’m assuming you’re in the US?

Best Buy will recycle your TV for free (it’s $10 for TVs 32” and under).

Some companies sponsor e-waste recycling days as part of their green initiatives. Some places like Fry’s will (or used to) take electronic recycling.

Just smash it with a baseball bat.
Relieve some stress.

@rangerr – funny you should mention smashing tv’s up, my friends dad had like 300 tv’s in one of his places that he wanted us to move out, we got to smash them all up.. lol, it was great :)

@pjanaway I’d be in heaven.
Do you have pictures of this event?
..Say yes.

pjanaway's avatar

@rangerr – I remember my friend took some pics on his phone, I just asked him if he still had em but apparently he deleted them.. LAME :(

If its a tube tv (CRT) it has chemicals in it that are harmful to the environment. If you want to be a bad person, go ahead and throw it out.

YARNLADY's avatar

@arpinum It’s against the law here to dispose of a TV in a dumpster. A person could face a stiff fine if they got caught.

In my neighborhood, you just set it on the curb and it disappears in half an hour!

YARNLADY's avatar

@stratman37 We have a lot of that here, too. It doesn’t always work, I put a non-working microwave out there last week, and no one took it

You should have put a “For Sale” sign on it!
