I get them from the grocery store all the time.

Then u not need an old lighter u need a modern one so u can quickly light the place and get away.

I still buy those all the time. I despise those clicky lighters.they’re hard to use after smoking certain plants. I just dislike them, but round Bics are still everywhere.

Wheel-style lighters have a fatal design flaw which can cause serious injury or death, which is why the design was phased out. When you spin the wheel, it’s possible for red-hot flint to break off and fall into the fuel well, causing the entire lighter to explode. Many people have been injured or killed this way. You’re better off with a clicky lighter.

@SmashTheState They can’t be phased out. I buy them all the time. Grocery stores, drug stores, and gas stations. In fact, I need another one and will probably get a pack of three.

Or just buy flint and fluid for the Zippo.

@mrentropy Bic was the target of several large lawsuits because of the design. I suspect the only companies which still use the dangerous flint and wheel design are ones which are more or less immune to lawsuits, like companies based in China.

Mr. Geremia, who has been involved in about 30 cases against Bic, testified that the Bic lighter, unlike other disposable lighters, had no mechanism to prevent debris from entering the valve.

In examining the inside of the lighter that burned Ms. Littlejohn, Mr. Geremia said, he found gouge marks ’‘indicating abrasion or interference in the jet going up and down.’’ Pieces of the flint, he said, had come in through the valve and slipped down the side of the jet.

@SmashTheState I never said there wasn’t a law suit. I’m saying that BIC wheel-type lighters can be bought. I don’t even care about the law suit. If they get phased out, they get phased out. Right now, though, they can be purchased.

1987? The phase out process is really, really slow. I’d be willing to bet they made a change in the design to prevent, or lower, the amount of explosions.

On my lighter it has a smooth section in the middle of the wheel and the rough edges on either side of it. In front of the smooth part is a metal shield that’s near the gas hole.
