Do you get really annoyed when people complain about stuff?

“Great Question” (4points)

I have a friend who complains about eveything, and I mean everything. If she’s tired, if she has a test, if her wrist hurts, if her lunch doesn’t taste the way it did a week ago. Today she complained about and then proceeded to be angry and depressed about the fact that her irish cream steamer was not full enough or hot enough.

The point is (as you can see) I really hate it when people complain about every little bump in the road or make mountains out of mole hills. There are a million good things that happen to us everyday but we have come to accept them as the norm and so take them for granted. As a result most people focus on the one or two things that go wrong.

How do you react to these complainers? Are you a complainer yourself?

I think you just wrote out a fairly long complaint.

I never complain to anyone in fear that they will to me, and frankly…I just don’t care. I have to deal with it on the job, so I don’t when away from it. I have known people like this, and I slowly put space between us and phased out the relationship.

global_nomad's avatar

@Ivan This is true, but this is one of the few things that really annoys/upsets me. Otherwise, I typically see the glass as half-full.

@global_nomad Perhaps the girl’s steamer not working properly “that really annoys/upsets” her.

IF I complain…it’s only to the powers that be or whomever is steering the boat. Outside of that, I’m pretty easy going. And I only complain about big stuff that impacts my life. As to other people complaining…about anything and everything…I start looking for the roll of duct tape.

@Facade An irish cream steamer is a drink.

Downers generally annoy me. Some complainers, however, are hilarious. I have a friend who has something bad to say about everything, but his complaints and extreme pessimism are often very funny.

It annoys me to no end when people complain about capitalism while enjoying it’s benefits.

The_Inquisitor's avatar

Well, I sure do complain, but not about EVERYTHING…
Umm, this may sound somewhat rude, but after they get annoying, I just naturally react to them and say something like “I know I Know!! Everything’s wrong for you, isn’t it?!” And then I imagine they will be like “sorry, do I complain too much?”

Lol, I don’t know, that’s how I picture it. A similar situation has occurred like that. Sometimes I’m just really bad at hiding how I feel… especially if I am annoyed. >_<

Facade's avatar

@global_nomad Really? Still. She has a right to be annoyed.

global_nomad's avatar

@Facade That’s true, she does have a right to be annoyed. I just really hate hearing about it all the time. And I really don’t see it as that big of a deal anyways, there are more important things to worry about.

i’m not a complainer because i have friends that are and i see how damn annoying it is. my one friend complains if he pulls out in front of someone then gets honked at, if his phone rings, if his dog wants out…

Spicy_Hot's avatar

If they dont complain all the time, its fine.

anon's avatar

I tend to only complain about things that I can change. Whether I actually go about changing them is another matter entirely.

It does bore me when people complain about every single little thing though but I’m British so I kinda have to deal with it. We do like a good moan! Mostly about the weather.

PandoraBoxx's avatar

Usually that sort of complaining is learned. Perhaps if you burst out laughing and tell her she sounds exactly like her mother, she’ll stop.

faye's avatar

I get annoyed when someone feels compelled to make their complaint more important than what I just said!

Darwin's avatar

She sounds self-centered or depressed or both.

Perhaps you need some additional friends so her complaints will be masked by their cheerful chatter.

I had a friend like that. We just called him Eeyore.

I could be inclined to say yes, but I bitch about everything all the time too.
First, that would make me a hypocrite, but second, it doesn’t actually bother me that others do it.
An ice cream issue seems ridiculous, however no matter how seemingly insignificant, a problem to someone is a problem, if it upsets them. Or it could be a means of expression. Our psyches may all be the same, but presenting what it brings forth can be different.
Whining is quite complex, and shouldn’t be defined solely by our own aggravation of it.

That said, complaining is healthy, because it means we’re happy and free. It is lame, because if I really wasn’t a happy individual, I’d be too busy suffering, being oppressed or put to death to complain about it. But it isn’t the end of the world, and is also a great portion of social communication and interaction, so I usually don’t notice how annoying it might be, really.

People who complain a lot are exhausting. But everyone complains at some point.

I know someone like the person you are describing. I think she’s just generally miserable and wants to bring everyone down to her level. Ugh.

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

It does annoy me. People need to stop focussing on all the bad things happening to them, because problems are only ever as big as the time they take. A person who complains about minor incidences is generally weak, selfish and near-sighted.

Slick's avatar

I just try to stay away from those kind of people.

Merriment's avatar

No, they are my people and I am their queen!

Not really :)

I don’t like chronic complainers and I try not to be a Debbie Downer myself, but I do have some sympathy for the habitually dissatisfied.

curlysue's avatar

No,What annoys me are people who think everything is already perfect.

Berserker's avatar

@curlysue Troo dat.

FireMadeFlesh's avatar

@curlysue True, things aren’t perfect, but instead of whining about it just get in there and change things to become perfect.

HumourMe's avatar

It depends what you’re complaining about and I guess it’s good to let it out then bottle it all up inside when you’re annoyed or angry about something.

Some people complain about everything .
My friends vent to me . I empathize with them often.
Some people who have it much easier than I do complain to me. I can only tolerate so much before I point out how easy their life is.

fredTOG's avatar

sorry about your luck but i don’t give a fuck.
