So, how many great migrations does this make? How smoothly do the transitions usually go?

I am beseeching you jellies who have been around far longer than me for this question. How many great migrations have there been to fluther from other q&a sites? I have witnessed two: the great wis.dm migration from earlier this year and now the Answerbag migration. I have also heard rumors and tales of earlier migrations from askville and yahoo answers. Does any jelly know how many of these there have been? Also, how smooth are the transitions usually? Having been through only two, I cannot properly gauge how well refugees from other sites take to fluther.

Disclaimer: This is not meant as a cheap shot or the beginnings of a flame war. I am honestly curious about the transitions.

I’m from the AIROW migration which is the only other one I know of. The transition was odd, I missed the old internet humor and meme usage as well as the lack of care to vulgarity.

If it helps, a flutherite told me in a comment that this has been the smoothest transition they have ever seen here, even though it’s the largest. That flutherite has a point range of nearly 17,000, and has seen three migrations. I do not know how long they have been here.

@phillis: Thank you, that does help! Do you feel comfortable telling me which jelly told you? Also, you can tell how long someone has been here by looking at the upper right hand corner of their profile page.

Sorry, I think fluther is having server problems. I can log onto any site but here. Right now, it’s intermittant. Sure! I am happy to tell you! Lemmee contact the person and see if they mind, okay? Be back in just a bit :)

I’m happy to answer that question, @KatawaGrey, especially since you and augustlan were the two jellies whose welcome messages helped me over a rough start more than a year ago.

I made a remark to Phillis in a PM that this was the smoothest transition I had seen. I was here for wis.dom and AIROW, and I came in shortly after the Askville flight, when people were still going on and on about it in questions and posts. I’m sure the mods have had a lot to do with the relative ease this time (and one of them told me it was the biggest), but the observation about smoothness is simply my own. I think both flutherfolk and new arrivals, Phillis notable among them, have been making an effort to integrate well, and so I wrote her a note to offer a compliment as well as a personal welcome.

Oh @Jeruba, I had a feeling it would be you! @phillis, you couldn’t have asked for a better jelly to welcome you to fluther!

I don’t remember the airow migration and I’ve been here longer… Maybe I am just far more oblivious than you my dear. :)

Then I am luckier than I realize! In time, I will be able to fully appreciate the magnitude of your statement, KG. Until then, I am grateful that I’ve been able to attract the nicest jellies so far. Am I blessed in life, or what :)

Thank you for your kind remarks, @KatawaGrey. I still remember the woman who took me to lunch on my first day in a scary new job in 1990, and I remember my first welcome to fluther, from you.

@Jeruba: Oh, you just brought a tear to my eye! I am still very glad that you are here and that you stuck around. :)
