Yes, a charmingly interesting conundrum. Coming up with an idea for a creative gift where cost is seemingly not a barrier but buying in quantity is a constraint, then more difficult than it would seem. As I’ve been knitting, I’ve been running through a whole litany of possibilities. It’s been rather like trying to guess Rumplestiltskins’ name. The Wellendorff rings are exquisite; that was an excellent gift. It sets an interesting benchmark. Makes Oprahesque items like barbecues and televisions seem pedestrian. The gift of adventure and travel is accounted for with the cruise voucher.
Ron Chilhuly glass? The “gift for 40” constraint is a barrier, as it is a Chagall stone lithograph. That leaves Hasselblad cameras, bicycles or a watch. Meh.
