I’ve tried having a personal motto, a good while ago. I came up with a whole load of them, but I never stuck with any.
I probably sound full of myself when I say my views are too complex and disparate to summarise everything I have to say in one sentence. I’m going to say it anyway.
My views are too complex and disparate to summarise everything I have to say in one sentence.
And then there’s the fact that making any point of view my personal quote might make me less willing to reconsider it. That’s no good either.
But here are some candidates.
“On a cosmic scale, we’re practically nothing. On a human scale, we’re practically everything.”
“Ask yourself this: if you were fundamentally wrong about what you believe, would you ever find out?”
”We’re grown-ups now, and it’s our turn to decide what that means.”
“Rule one of the universe: don’t be an idiot.”
