I really like it here. I think the site is no less than adorable. I still can’t figure out how to ask a question from my computer..I think there is something wrong with the server. I was welcomed by most people, except for a few who whine on their profiles about not liking the influx of Answerbaggers…and this one guy who came over to AB from here and tried to start stuff over there. I do have more to say, but I’ll probably type it later because it’s 5 am and I’m getting tired. :p

heres my answer….................
i felt very welcome at first .. it was great .. but now that the mods have relaxed their watchover…..people are learning the little known fact that jellyfish have stingers . and can attack in groups .

Jellyfish Sting Symptoms
Symptoms include an intense, stinging pain, itching, rash, and raised welts.
The progressive effects of a jellyfish sting may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, lymph node swelling, abdominal pain, numbness/tingling, and muscle spasms.
Severe reactions can cause difficulty breathing, coma, and death.
A sting from a box jellyfish or other venomous types of jellyfish can cause death in minutes.
Prevention
Wear protective clothing (gloves, wet suits, dive skins) when swimming in jellyfish-infested areas. Avoid picking up dead jellyfish. Dead jellyfish may still have live nematocysts that can still release toxins (even after they have dried up).

Avoid going into known jellyfish-infested areas. If you do, know what type of jellyfish are common to the area

Be prepared to treat a jellyfish sting. Have a basic first aid kit (make sure it has an oral antihistamine in the kit) prepared and bring it with you.

Take a course in basic first aid before heading to the beach, snorkeling, swimming, or scuba diving.

In the evening or at night when swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving, take care to look for jellyfish on the surface of the water.

Expel air from the alternate air source while ascending during scuba diving to disperse any jellyfish directly above you.

Educate yourself as to the type of jellyfish that may be in the waters in which you are swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving

Bring Safe Sea Jellyfish After Sting® pain relief gel in case you do get stung.

Do not swim in waters where large numbers of jellyfish have been reported. Wearing a wet suit or Lycra dive skin can prevent stings.

If you have a known insect sting allergy carry an allergy kit, which contains injectable epi-pens (epinephrine, adrenaline). Make sure those with you know how to administer the epi-pen in case you are unable to do so.
Do not touch any marine life while swimming, snorkeling, or scuba diving. Most marine animals have a protective coating that when touched, is rubbed off when and exposes the animal to bacteria and parasites; moreover, touching, “playing,” or moving marine animals is stressful for them. Corals are easily damaged when touched and the area if the coral touched by hands, fins, or the body will die. To protect the ocean environment, when swimming, snorkeling, or scubadiving look, don’t touch, and leave only bubbles.

i even went back and did something i never did, and swore at the staff to get banned! all i got was a pb till april 2010, very odd . all in all , very happy here!:)

I have only been here a short time, but I like it a lot. I am from AB and even there I did not ask/answer many questions. The people here seem to be very nice and there doesn’t seem to be as many trolls as on AB. One thing I especially like is that when you check the questions there aren’t any,so far, which are explicitly sexual…and I mean bordering on pornographic like AB is now….with all it’s “improvements”. I was not bothered by some of the things they did away with (the downrate button, for example..I didn’t use it anyway), but in the process of their upgrade, they lost the warmth and most of the sense of community that was the reason most people were there in the first place. I don’t see how any site could have made the influx of ABers feel more welcome than this one has. :-)

I an incredibly grateful for the warm welcome I recieved here. Like a shipwreck survivor being pulled out of the water. I no longer wish to have any association with the former site and only want to incorporate myself seamlessly into this collective. I already feel quite at home here. I hope that there will be no factional strife here.I enjoy the greater structure and higher intellectual tone of my new home.

The moderators are superb, IMHO. The one question of mine that was modded, it was due to the direction that the answerers had taken the response thread, something I could not correct so I gladly killed the question. The only answer of mine that was removed was done at my own request.

The mods are super accessible here. I have a few on AIM. I talk to allie more then I talk to my sister. And my sister is 20 feet away.

I won’t be mentioning who has pissed me off. For one thing, I haven’t really been angry. Mildy annoyed, if that, would more accurately describe it. For another, I like putting those things in the past where they belong. 2nd chances are important.

I have felt VERY welcomed! Most people have been incredibly attentive to my needs.

I HAVE been modded – 2 questions out of three. It was NOT unfair. I am new, so I stepped in dog doo. It happens! No biggie. The mod’s approach was so respectful and so nice that I could use a magnifying glass and tweezers and still not find anything wrong with it.

Pearls? Yeah…..a strand of ‘em, but I’ll give the condensed version.

Don’t confront a person in front of others over a rule infraction unless you want a hornet’s nest (that’s what PMs are for). You show me your ass, I’ll show you mine. Play nice.

Don’t bitch when people are generous and kind. It shows unbelievably poor taste (to the point of being funny!) to say it in front of them, and destroys the flow of good will. When that happens, it always circles back around and bites you in the ass. Every. Single. Time. There’s a lot of evil goings on in the world. This ain’t one of ‘em.

I’m fairly new here and am having a jolly time, everyone seems friendly and the folks I’ve spoke to in secret are genuine and nice. Not sure about the reward system thing, not sure if actually is neccessary so not paying a great deal of attention to it to be honest. (Giving and getting points is great but how many people focus on that rather than the questions or answers? anyhoo It’s not why I’m staying) I’m thinking of buying a plot of land here beside the stream and building a wee log cabin. might need some help though…............

Honestly it is mixed. I like most of the functionality of the site itself, the questions a good and amusing at times. I am disturbed by the negative feedback from my trusted friends from AB. Lots of unhappiness over their own experiences and far too many have left already for good. While I myself have had no negative experiences with other Flutherites I have had no breakout ones either.

This website strikes me as very controlled and structured. It’s different. That doesn’t mean I’m asking Fluther to change its rules. I’m just stating what I feel is fact.

There is big difference between the two. here is my example: i compare Fluther to Answerbag like Macys to WalMart. Answerbag was getting to the point that the questions for Life and Society were all sexual oriented. some really trashy questions were being asked. people would place the questions in this category, because they knew most of the questions were asked by ABers there. Fluther is a much more classy forum for asking and answering questions. i like that. its the people that make the difference and there appears to be really good people on Fluther. john
