Should Tiger Woods have just received two awards?

Tiger Woods was just given two very prestigous awards. does this mean that people are condoning his adultry? it may not actually be this way, but it appears this way to the public. case in point are his sponsors abandoning Tiger Woods, because of his adultry. giving these awards to Tiger Woods now, is really bad timing. what do you think?

Tiger got them for golfer of the decade, not husband of the decade.

He didn’t get them to anything relating to his personal life, so why shouldn’t he have received the awards?

But, what example is he setting to young golfers?

Were they chastity or fidelity awards? Probably not.

I hear he’s pretty decent at golf, though.

Sponsors pull their support because they don’t want their products tinged with the stink of being associated with his bad image. It’s all about the profit motive – they think being associated with him will make sales drop, so they quit him.

What about other famous people who are womanizers just as or even more than Tiger?People act as if this is the first time a big named athlete has done this. Wade Boggs anyone?Warren Beatty anyone?I’m not saying its ok,I’m saying this is what people do. People need to realize that these people we put up on pedistols are just as flawed as you and I. Meeting our heroes never turns out the way we want it too.

I think these awards were in the making for Tiger before his affairs came out. The awards are for his skills in playing golf and should have been awarded to him. Infidelity has been around for hundreds of years, but the so called “news” stations grab something like this and play it to death. This kind of thing would never have been leaked in the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, or even the 70’s.

The awards do not condone anything. The court of popular opinion, his sponsors, etc. will be the ones that condone or condemn his. The awards are for golfing prowess, and should be seen as such.

It is just one more incident of why we shouldn’t consider anyone role models that do not have a direct impact on our lives. To quote Dutch Dooley, Tiger Woods, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Lawrence Taylor, or any of the rest “don’t care if [we] live, die, or grow mushrooms out [our] crack”. Why should we care if they do?

yes!!!!! the awards are for his professional skills as a golfer, he is not competing to win the best husband award
but he can win the awesome cheater award, a mention for having a dozen affairs
Why are we so light headed when judging someone we don’t know comes to the table as an issue???
even Homer Simpson was about to cheat on marge once! But Marge thought about it first!!!

should barack obama

@strange1 – do you mean the Nobel prize? There’s discussion here about that, so we can leave Tiger his space here. ;)

What does his career have to do with her personal life?? Oh, right. Nothing!! I felt the same way when people were all over Bill Clinton for having an affair. How did it have any affect on his ability to lead the country?? Taking away Tiger’s sponsorships is somewhat understandable because those are based on his image as a person, not only on his golfing ability. But not giving him awards for his brilliant golfing because of a personal morally questionable act would be incredibly stupid. Having extramarital sex doesn’t change his golfing ability… Hell if it did, I bet he’d have kept it in his pants! :)

What kind of awards? For golf, correct? His personal life has nothing to do with his professional life. If he’s a fanstasic golfer but a deadbeat husband, so what? He still deserves to be rewarded for his talent.

Tom said it best! Tiger was given the awards for his athletic ability, not his personal life. Tiger is the best golfer on this planet. Hopefully, he can grow up and learn from this huge setback! It ain’t going to be easy!

Jack Nicklaus, took the high road and said, (paraphrasing his comment) this is between Tiger and his family hopefully they can overcome these problems and do what is best for them!

Someone said once, “out of tradegy, some good is learned!”

Hopefully, this story will have a good ending!

Should all “convicted” or “proven” adulterers not receive awards – Bill Clinton comes to mind. I’m going to say the Americans should be a little more Frenchlike and stay out of people’s bedrooms. Stats show about 50% of couples get divorced, and more than that cheat on their spouses. It’s between him and his wife. Let’s move on.

SABOTEUR's avatar

Unless the awards were for adultery, I don’t see how it’s related.

Are we expected to ignore a man’s achievements in one area because he blundered in another?

Tiger Woods Holiday Poem

Twas the night of Thanksgiving and out of the house,
Tiger Woods came a flyin’, chased by his spouse.

She wielded a nine iron and wasn’t too merry,
Cause a bimbo’s phone number was in his Blackberry.

He’d been cheatin’ on Elin, and the story progressed,
Woman after woman, stepped up and confessed.

He’d been cheatin’ with Holly, and Jaimee, and Cori,
With Joselyn, and Kalika, the world had the story.

From the top of the Tour to the basement of blues,
Tiger’s sad sordid tale was all over the news.

With hostesses, waitresses, he had lots of sex,
When not in their pants, he was sendin’ them texts.

Despite all his cryin’ and beggin’ and pleadin’,
Tiger’s wife went investin’—a new home in Sweden.

And I heard her exclaim from her white Escalade,
“If you’re gettin’ laid then I’m gettin’ paid.”

She is not pouting, she’s of jolly good cheer,
her prenup made Christmas come early this year.

If a doctor found the cure for aids, but was cheating on his wife pretty much everyday, does he deserve an award? Just leave the guy alone, south park made enough fun of him already…
