Free virus and anti spy ware?

“Great Question” (3points)

I am currently using AVG. I am using it as most sites advised it was the best? Agree or not? Is there other spy ware (free) that is better?

I also used CClean anyone heard of it? It seems to do quite well.

Any other suggestions appreciated. I had a guy find my own personal email that was not even on any of my messengers etc., that really freaked me out.

@Just_Justine ,I run both on my PC, my computer tech. says they are the best free programs going.

These are what i run every week – AVG Free, Adaware Free, CCleaner, Spybot: Search & Destroy, Malware Bytes and Windows Defender.

Keep them all updated, run at least once a week and make sure youre not going crazy downloading files that youre unsure of.

We need an anti virus software however a student of mine that worked in IT for years gave me this tip. Make another account for use on the Internet instead of using Administrator and that way the spyware and malware cannot be downloaded. For some reason it blocks it.
AVG Rocks!

AVG, CCLeaner, Spybot, and Adaware are really good free programs.

I have tried all of them. anything free is not free. the Trojan hides in free downloaded anit-virus programs and i would not touch it. i have the best and most up to date AVG. it works great. the firewalls have firewalls. WalMart has it for about $65 dollars. its worth it for peace of mind. john

My computer guru put Avira on mine, & I love it. It’s doing a good job.

I liked “spy hawk” :)
V3 works fine too (completely free) but then, it’s a foreign software :)

I agree with “StupidGirl” Avast is a smart choice…
Also a2 aSquared the free version… www.emsisoft.com

Avira is in the top three and the AV is free (there is also a paid version that is a full security suite). Avast! is also a good choice for free AV. The heuristics aren’t nearly as good (Avira’s are the best out of any AV, paid or free) but it’s detection rate is in the same range as Avira’s (>99%) so you can’t go wrong with either of them.

AVG is pretty meager. It’s good at being pretty and user-friendly, but it’s detection rate is comparatively low. It also bears the distinction of being on my system when I got my only virus ever, so I have even more reason to distrust it than just the numbers on AV-Comparatives’ test results.

@LTaylor Avast and Avira are #1 and #2. Both are good, and thanks for the backup :)
IMAO, they are the Ford and Chevy of the Anti-virus world.
