Is it odd for a personality type to change over a short period of time?

“Great Question” (2points)

Since high school, I’ve taken Myers-Briggs personality tests every so often. I was always evaluated as an INTJ – Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, and Judging. I took the test last week and found that I’m an ENTP (now Extroverted and Perceiving).

Is is odd that my personality has changed so much over a few years? How is this possible? Has anyone else had this experience?

I don’t think so because of the age you’re at. It’s natural to have your personality change quite a bit between your high school years and college. It’s part of emotional growth.

I would only worry if you are exhibiting some sort of damaging personal change. Such as suddenly finding harming other people ‘fun’.

Meyers-Briggs should be administered and interpreted by a professional. Taking it by yourself means next to nothing, and even professionally it doesn’t mean that much unless it’s accompanied by other measurements, such as the MMPI and other inventories.

when you’re young your personality does change. Your responses can also vary depending on your mood and feelings on the day you take the test. It’s better to take the test at different times and take an average over a period of months or years. It will most likely settle as you get older.

My Meyers-Briggs never changed over time, but I went through a total mental/emotional breakdown a few months ago and have been told that my personality manifests totally differently now. Total disregard for personal health, safety, appearance, etc. where I was once meticulous about such things, I’m no longer suicidal, but if someone were to point a gun at me I would laugh and dare him to pull the trigger.

It’s normal to become more extroverted in the course of a few years, but it sounds like you’ve also become more… creative? By the way, that’s an awesome type. I’m an INTP. Do you feel any different?

Not for some people.

Yeah I don’t trust that test. Don’t worry about it.

@Haleth – I do feel different, yes. And not because I took some test and it told me I was different. I’m kind of wondering if I was always this personality type and only now am I being honest with myself about it. I don’t feel more creative. I feel more focused on creativity.

What’s it like being an INTP? Are you like me, but introverted?

We change over time and certain situations we are in changes our outlook and way of reacting to things. I bet if I did that test once a month I would “change” depending also on the mood I was in when I wrote it. I don’t put more store in those types of tests. They seem moment bound.

Meyers-Briggs is a fallible instrument. I wouldn’t think about it too much.
